The Mob – Amsterdam, Holland 05/06/79

Crying Again / Youth / Frustration / Never Really Cared / Too Young / Last Years Thing / All Went Wrong / Youth / It’s A Rip Off / The Fast One / Appearance / Violence / Louie Louie

What’s Going On

Mixing desk tape of the early era of the Mob, on tour with Here And Now and a couple of bus loads of other support acts. Songs written way before the ‘peace punk’ tag that they had to carry around until the end of 1983. Grant Showbiz on the mixing desk mic, an able guitarist, a VERY angry bassist, and one shit hot drummer in Graham Fallows who also sings a few of the tracks.

Two cover versions, It’s A Rip Off by Marc Bolan and T Rex, Louie Louie originally by the Kingsmen of course.

Enjoy, but if you are hoping for songs about dead children in playgrounds prepare to be disappointed.

Original artwork above from 1978/79 painted by Wilf (RIP)

This is blistering stuff. More anarchy and anger than anarchy and peace. And Louie Louie…

Good to hear Curtis in his prime.
Curtis was always my favourite Mob really.
I loved the whole band from start to finish but I found it hard to see Mark the way everyone else saw him because he was my brother.

Curtis was always really funny on stage though and I loved his proper punk rock attitude to life.

Curtis was one of my greatest teachers I reckon.
I learned how to be rude and obnoxious and laugh like fuck while you’re doing it.
(he also used to give me beer and fags)

Wicked hearing that gig though. I’ve got a tape from some of those holland gigs, which mark gave me off the dashboard of the transit when they got back from holland.
if someone wants to digitalise it you’re more than welcome.

    Hi Puppies
thanks for posting my Fulham Greyhound tape.
This Amsterdam gig reminds me that they used to jump around and talk between songs at one time, great stuff…keep ’em coming, Paul sounds like he has some interesting stuff, hopefully you could post some in the future.

I’m looking forward to hearing their cover version of Stairway To Heaven!!!……………..(only joking)

Such a good sounding early set from these guys. Thanx a ton for sharing this. I seperated the recording into tracks, without taking any of the banter in between songs, and labelled them. Was wondering if you minded if I posted it as such on my blog, of course linking back to this post. Thanx again.

Thanx Penguin, I really appreciate that. I’ve actually been enjoying your site for about two years now but have probably only commented once, because it seems to be a pretty tight circle of people that you have around here. This has got to be one of the best resources out there, not just for the most obscure of bands but also some rare finds for some of our old favorites. Incredible! And since I haven’t taken the time to do so before I wanted to thank you for all the time and energy you have put into the music sharing process. I won’t be a stranger in the future. By the way, the Bush Tetras post you had a while back was excellent.

Justin, thanks for those kind words. Obviously well worth doing this site when folk get something from it.
AmsterdamD will not be for sale – sorry! 🙁
