Patrik Fitzgerald – Small Wonder Records 1977

Banging And Shouting / Safety Pin Stuck In My Heart / Work Rest Play Reggae

Set We Free / Optimism

Here is Patrik’s debut single for Small Wonder Records. A little bit scratchy this single, compared to the other one uploaded on this site (use search function), hence the reason why I put the other one on…Due to the nice comments posted on the other release, I have decided to put this up, scratchy or not!

Very fine stuff indeed – surely this stuff must be in main-stream circulation via cd re-releases – surprised if not – how about sticking up Paranoid Ward which is a total classic to these ears ….

Got safety pin scratches on my heart…. adds to the sound, makes it more real, more punk, less clinical and sanitized.

I wanna hear that ‘island of lost souls’ song that’s at the beginning of the “rough cut n ready dubbed” film. that’s an amazing song, as is the other song he does , ‘Tonight’.

This was one of the first records I ever stole 🙂 (if i remember rightly)
Nice one Tony for making all this stuff available. I lost/gave away all my records ages ago and have been trying to find it all ever since.

Great single – “And it’s all been designed to say ‘Let’s keep another of the fuckers down’!”: yes indeed!

@Stu-> As an old biochemist friend of mine (who was no stranger to God’s Own Electric Soup) told me over a couple of bottles of not-too-decent Scotch one evening some years ago: “Many things can be effectively preserved in high-strength alcohol. But dignity ain’t one of ’em mate!” 😉

“… and all I want from life is a bus to take me home”.

Reminds me of sitting round Wank Stain’s mum and dad’s place in Plaistow in 79 with the radiogram fired up and re-rolling the re-rolled Rothmans’ butts to go with the half a bottle of cheapjack voddy. Marvellous!

Patrik is the greatest. The links are down, could you re-up, please? I have been looking desperately for the original Grubby Stories, anyone?

Hello PF fans, a bit late in the day I know but I have quite a lot of his stuff, if anyone is desperate I can test my technical skills and try to email something. It sounds just as good if not better all these years later. Albums: Gifts & Telegrams (includes Island of Lost Souls and a great intense cover of Brel’s My Death), Drifting Towards Violence, Tunisian Twist. Singles: All Sewn Up, Improve Myself, Personal Loss, Pop Star, Pop Star (under name Josef Garret), Tonight 12″EP and Paranoid Ward 12″ (birthday pressie from Ruth about 30 years ago, still got it hon!). Also there was a compilation CD in 1994, PF… The Very Best Of on Anagram/Cherry Red which might still be available somewhere.

I remember seeing him probably very early 80s at a gig in a community centre somewhere and he was virtually booed off stage, I think because he was using a synth and therefore deemed a sellout. Reminds me of seeing Benjamin Zephaniah on TV speaking about the multicultural folk group/project The Imagined Village at the Cambridge Folk Festival earlier this year, he reckoned that the first person to be called sellout was the first person in a cave somewhere several thousand years ago to grab a rock and tap along to a vocal! Heresy!

Hi Steph, funny old day Jim W, Jim the driver (Look Mummy Clowns) mentioned you today as we watched THFC lose at Wigan. Any hoo place any interesting links up at your leisure on this thread.

Hi Penguin, I fear my parting words to Jim at Flux may have been a little insulting as he failed to produce Stringy! Still, being insulted by an ex-Hagar must be nothing compared to losing to Wigan… Will dig out my PF collection when I get a sec.
