Richard, what was the name of the long haired guitarist from this incarnation of Brigandage? He was the guy who played on the Pretty Funny Thing LP, yes?

That sounds familiar Tony. He had a nice sound, but completely different to previous Brigandage guitarists.

Hi Dan, yes the Timebox gig / Pretty Funny Thing LP guitarist was Glen. Less Steve Jones-esque than other Brigandage guitarists – we were heading more into VU territory by then, I suppose.

Yea Richard, more Lou than Iggy I guess. Pretty Funny Thing was like a different band altogether – new material, different players. Odd but powerful testament as the only real piece of Brigandage vinyl. I have it and still play it. I have a great tape Michelle made me years ago of Brigandage Mk1 – gigs, demos, wicked stuff. I keep finding it and losing it again at the moment – it is defying my digitisation.
I will post it when I can Penguin.

My memory of the briefing I had, for the Pretty Funny Thing tracks was, to not use any guitar parts that could be mistaken for previous Brigandage guitarists, which ruled out quite a lot of the ways I would have played them more naturally at the time, having been a fan of Micks live playing in particular
Soundwise, to not use any effects like chorus and echos, which might take things in a more Banshees direction.
For direction to basically re-write all the guitar parts, in a more Velvet Underground style, with a bit of Stooges and T-Rex thrown in.
Only after I agreed did Richard tell me the recordings studio was booked for only 3 weeks later. But hey, if you dont work and don’t sleep that’s equivalent to any one else’s 2 months. Sleep deprivation and strong alcohol/coffee mixtures being key ingredients in getting an honest Lou Reed feel

i know i’ve been saying this for ages – its not laziness its just so many things take up time but i’m down to 1 days teaching a week though i’ve still got the clothes to do but i’ll make a big effort over easter. its trying to get a good version of the peel sessions even though thats slightly illegal but heh!!!!! does anyone have one?

Remember the Peel session very well. Great to hear these tracks again.
Have to say that amongst that crop of bands – SGC, Southern Death Cult, Blood and Roses et al, Brigandage were always my favourites.

though maybe it was Trevor from Ich Und Mine Staubsukker (sp?) who had the decent copy.
The only people I remember having a a good quality copy of the Peel sessions were Protag ( AltenativeTV/Blyth Power) and someone from the KOB in Berlin, bet you didn’t think I could remember anything from Berlin Becks und Zeck und wrecked

I did try to get a few friends to do a concept based on of an extremist US Christian right wing propoganda tape you sent me from India/Pakistain,

but somehow no-one else seemed interested, OK so maybe a concept album from the point of view of a dead child wasn’t such a great idea.
So I gave up playing…almost…
I did do a thing with Clive Goodwin ( Webcore ) Paul Mcwhinney ( Treatment/The Answer ) Jonnie Ely ( Thunderdogs ) called The Siddhe ( though I spelt it Psydhe ) Which came about as Clive and I were doing a lot of live sound engeneering together and I’d agreed to play a bit for one of his bands, ended up being more intergral than initailly planned, we didn’t get much done as we spent more time enginerering for others rather than ourselves eg Linking back to Brigandage, I did the sound at quite a few early Daisy Chainsaw gigs, about 6 different bands that Dez played in and rather nicely a few for Blyth Power when Protag played for them, nice as he did sound for Brigandage a few times. Oh and Richard’s Woman project.

I’d certainly like to hear it, I was always a Brigandage fan, in fact I reckon that I’m the Brigandage member that paid to go and see them more times than any other Brigandage member. A record that will probably stand unless Michelle reforms with Jon Slam/AngryPerson/NowMildPersonByAllAcccounts
